Asus Z97-P upgrade to 32GB RAM

Here i show you how i upgraded my PC with the ASUS Z97-P Motherboard from 16GB to 32GB RAM. It is very easy and little work to do.

My main reasons for the upgrade:

I wanted to take full advantage of the ASUS Z97-P abilities, and RAM isn't that expensive these days.

Existing configuration:

Mainboard: ASUS Z97-P, UEFI BIOS Ver. 2907

CPU: Intel E3-1231 V3

SSD: Plextor 128GB M6e, FW. 1.06, in M.2 slot on Motherboard (Samsung SM951 256 GB coming)

RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (2x8GB)

GPU: XFX Radeon HD6950, 2GB, DUAL BIOS, Shader unlock and GOP BIOS mod. I just love that card.

Addition:

RAM: a second pair of Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (2x8GB)

The procedure is very easy and straightforward.

  • Shut off the PC and disconnect from power and open the case
  • Make sure you yourself are electrostatically discharged
  • Add in the additional RAM Modules
  • Open the lashes on both sides on the free ram slot
    • Seat the new ram modules according to the slot
    • Push the ram modules down until the lashes snap back in
  • Close the case and reconnect the power
  • There is no change in BIOS settings needed (though you can check in the BIOS)
    • The same XMP settings like on the previous modules were applied to the new ones
  • Windows recognizes the additional RAM immediately
  • Ready to go, enjoy
